writers group: los angeles

The Writers' Lab, LA is a writers group focused exclusively on feature film screenplays. We do not accept prose, poetry, or television writers.

Each week, four member writers present new work before the group.

Our group maintains a rotating list and each author has an opportunity to present new work every 3-4 weeks.

When presenting, each writer is responsible for contacting the actors needed to perform their material. We have a large roster of professional actors that graciously bring the work to life.

Once the work is performed, the author moderates an open discussion about the work. During this discussion, constructive criticism and development ideas are openly exchanged.

Our monthly dues are a nominal $30 per writer. This small fee covers our theater rental and refreshments for our benevolent actors.

None of our actors pay any dues. They serve the group at the writers' request and are encouraged to comment on new material as much as they like during the open discussions.

Our group meets one evening a week from 7 - 10 pm. We are currently meeting at The Two Roads Theater in Studio City. If you are interested in joining please apply for membership. We will contact you regarding what night of the week we are presently gathering and our current capacity to accept new screenwriters.
